JOB SUMMARY

The Switcher is responsible for safely moving trailers within the yard and operating material-handling equipment to support efficient warehouse and transportation operations. This position includes the operation of a stand-up forklift in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards to assist with loading, unloading, staging, and movement of freight.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Move trailers between dock doors, yard locations, and staging areas using a yard jockey or hostler truck
• Spot inbound, outbound, and empty trailers at assigned dock doors according to operational schedules
• Operate a stand-up forklift to load, unload, move, and stage freight in compliance with
• Conduct required pre-use inspections of yard trucks, trailers, and forklifts prior to operation
• Follow safe lifting, travel, and always stacking practices while operating powered industrial equipment
• Communicate with warehouse, shipping, and transportation teams regarding trailer placement and freight status
• Verify trailer numbers, seals, and dock assignments for accuracy
• Maintain accurate yard and equipment movement records as required
• Immediately report accidents, near-misses, damage, or unsafe conditions to manager
• Maintain clean, organized, and obstruction-free dock and yard areas
• Comply with all company safety policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Perform additional warehouse or yard duties as assigned
• Compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) as defined under the U.S. DOT.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Valid driver's license (CDL)
• Demonstrated experience operating a stand-up forklift (reach or similar)

Preferred:

• Prior experience as a Switcher, Yard Jockey, or Stand-Up Forklift Operator
• Experience in distribution center or logistics environments
• Familiarity with RF scanners or Yard Management Systems (YMS)
